About Us & Joining

WHO WE ARE: The Babbacombe Ukulele Strummers (BUS) held their first meeting on the 28th November 2011, with most people novices to the ukulele.  Since then the group has learnt to play numerous tunes, given many public performances, and has members with a whole range of experience.

WHERE WE MEET:  The group, known as the BUS, meets on most Monday evenings at the Babbacombe Corinthian Sailing Club, Fore Street, St Marychurch TQ1 4LY. The session lasts from 7:00 to 9:00pm.  To check the actual dates visit the Diary.

CHARGES: To cover costs there is a charge of £2 per person at each session attended Note: for new members there is no charge for the first ‘taster’ session.

WHAT WE DO: During the session we sing and play together to learn new tunes, practice others for performances, as well as learning new chords and techniques on the ukulele to develop our playing skills. And of course to have fun!

OUR PERFORMANCES:  An enjoyable part of our activity is playing in public and we offer our services free of charge to charities and other organisations through our members and by word of mouth.

IF YOU WANT TO JOIN US:  Our group is an excellent place to try out the ukulele in a friendly atmosphere, or to play one if you already have experience.  If you want to join, then send us an e-mail using the Contact Us page with the subject line of ‘BUS Membership’ saying if you already have experience playing the uke, or are a beginner.  Or, just come along to a regular Monday session with your uke.  See the Diary for details of which Mondays we will be meeting and times etc.

ALREADY HAVE EXPERIENCE PLAYING A UKE: Then click here to see the Playlists we use at our Monday sessions, and which tunes we will be playing at the next session.  Also, see our Our Repertoire of the many tunes we do or have played.

BEGINNERS: We welcome beginners who are an important part of the group and have produced an excellent BUS Beginners Guide to the Ukulele.  This explains how to get your ukulele ready and to start playing it, see the Getting Started With Your Ukulele page under the Music tab for more details.  During Monday sessions, beginners are supported to get going with their uke and join in with the group
